Livingstone Shire Council is keen to involve its young people and has taken this commitment online with the establishment of the Youth in Livingstone Facebook Page www.facebook.com/youthinlivingstone
Mayor of Livingstone Shire, Councillor Bill Ludwig said Facebook provided a forum to communicate with our youth, through technology which has become an important part of their life and the way our young residents communicate with each other and the wider world.
“Council has established this Facebook Page to provide information that is directly relevant to the needs and interests of our Youth.
“This page complements Council’s corporate Facebook page www.facebook.com/livingstoneshirecouncil which is a great source of information for residents who wish to keep up-to-date with Livingstone Shire Council’s services, announcements and events, from the convenience of their phone or computer,” Mayor Ludwig said.
Councillor Nigel Hutton who holds Council’s Youth Development and the Arts Portfolio, said Facebook was an indispensable platform from which our young people can be heard.
“Today, Facebook is essential for connecting with our young people. They are already engaged with Facebook, so our Youth in Livingstone Facebook page brings Council and its youth services and links to other youth organisations, direct to them.”
“Facebook will play an important role in identifying for Council what our local youth want. Young people know what is important to them, and their needs can be very different to those of the general community. Using Facebook to capture our young residents’ opinions, thoughts and input is vital in order to give them a voice and help guide our Council into the future.”
“We are now asking all young people between 12-18 years of age to visit the Page and comment with their suggestions on what they believe Council should be doing for young people in Livingstone Shire,” Cr Hutton said.
Any young resident of Livingstone Shire who leaves a comment to this question on our Youth in Livingstone Facebook Page will be placed into a random prize draw for a $100 gift voucher to the retail store of their choice. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the upcoming Youth Week activities (4-13 April).
