Livingstone Shire Council is in search of the region’s best gardens, as the 2018 Livingstone Lifestyle and Garden Competition opens tomorrow!
With more than $5,000 in prizes and vouchers up for grabs, the Shire’s green thumbs are being encouraged to nominate in a range of categories including;
• Best Edible Garden;
• Best Use of Native Plants;
• Best Community/Corporate or School Garden;
• Best Novice Garden under 12 months;
• Best Lifestyle Garden;
• Best Colour Garden;
• Best Senior/Pensioner’s Garden;
• Best Use of Recyclable/Reusable Item.
Parks Councillor Tom Wyatt encouraged residents to get involved this year, with plenty of categories to choose from.
“Given in previous year’s we’ve seen some fantastic displays, we are looking forward to again enjoying some unique, high-quality entries. From showcasing different plants to demonstrating low water requirements or attracting native wildlife and insects, each category has a range of criteria which need to be met,” Cr Wyatt said.
“With Council’s continual push to be more environmentally friendly, a new category has been added this year – Best Use of Recyclable/Reusable Item, which we hope will attract some innovative and interesting displays.
“Entrants can nominate in as many categories as they like, providing their garden meets the criteria. A Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will be chosen from all the entries and there are some great prizes to be won.”
The competition is open to all residents and businesses of Livingstone Shire Council and entries must be submitted by Sunday 30 September.
Judging will take place Monday 8 October to Thursday 11 October and the winners will be announced on Friday 19 October at Yeppoon Town Hall.
