From bike riding and old time dancing, to Croquet and a Country Music Day, it’s going to be an action-packed three weeks for seniors in Livingstone, as Celebrating Seniors throughout our Shire kicks off from Thursday, 9 August!
The extended Seniors Week 2018, running from August 9 – 30, is filled with a wide variety of activities and events to choose from across our region. Events include Grandparents Play Date, Seniors by the Sea Exhibition, Poet’s Breakfast, a Seniors Expo, The Great Debate, Aussie BBQ Lunch, CWA Morning Tea and even a trip to Kilbirnie Homestead.
Community Development and Support and Senior Citizens Committee Chair Councillor Jan Kelly said there were 17 exciting events on offer as part of this year’s program.
“The Seniors Week committee have strived to ensure there is a broad range of activities available for our senior community to enjoy this year, following on from the great response received during past year’s events,” Cr Kelly said.
“We also have some new and exciting activities this year, like Singing for Health and Happiness, Musical Reflections, Fun in Australia Afternoon Tea and also an interactive tour of The Hub in Beaman Park.
“Seniors Week is a special time to recognise and reflect upon the invaluable contribution our older community members have made to this Shire, and this program of events is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate that.”
“Council must also thank the State Government and COTA Australia for their support to help Council facilitate these wonderful events for our senior community.
“In particular I’d like to acknowledge the hardworking organising committee, including council staff, along with the seniors themselves who come out and get involved, making these events so worthwhile.”
