Livingstone Shire Council celebrates Youth Week!

From 4 April to 13 April, a series of free activities will be held for all young people aged 12-25 to celebrate Youth Week 2014.

Councillor Nigel Hutton who holds the Council Portfolio for Youth Development and Arts said ”National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia aged 12-25 years old.”

“Livingstone Shire Council is proud to partner with local organisations to bring together a programme of fun and engaging activities for our youth.”

Activities include a creative arts session, a graffiti art workshop, movies at Yeppoon Town Hall, the Time 4 Kids project (which raises money for the PCYC) and the innovative ‘Video Me’ project,” Councillor Hutton said.

This year’s theme ‘Our Voice, Our Impact’ is about ensuring that our young people have opportunities to speak up about the things that matter to them and are encouraged to engage with their local community,” Councillor Hutton said.

“Throughout Youth Week, Livingstone Shire Council will be reaching out at the events and through Facebook to ask youth what they believe Council can do for them.”

“Youth represent our future and so understanding their needs is important for both current and future planning.”

“I encourage our youth to participate in the National Youth Week events. Log onto our Youth in Livingstone facebook page, and let Council know what we can do for youth in Livingstone,” Councillor Hutton said.
