Levies and Charges

Rural Fire Services Levy  
A special charge will be levied on all rateable land within the respective Rural Fire Brigade districts for the purpose of raising funds for each Brigade. Funds collected are for the purpose of contributing to the operation costs of fire fighting and where appropriate the purchase of equipment.

Emergency Management, Fire and Rescue Levy 
A compulsory charge collected by council on behalf of the State Government to fund emergency services to help support and rebuild communities devasted by emergencies such as floods, cyclones, fires and accidents.  The levy applies to each individual lot except where lots are used as a bona-fide primary producing land.  More than one levy may appear on a rates notice that is for multiple lots.

Road Levy Separate Charge 
A separate charge for the purpose of meeting a contribution to the costs of renewal for the Shire’s road network generally, whose benefit is considered to be spread uniformly across the Shire, will be made and levied equally on all rateable land within the Shire. The amount of this charge is $548 per annum.

Disaster Response Separate Charge 
This is a charge will assist in the support of the State Emergency Services including ongoing cost of maintenance of facilities and emergency equipment so vital for our volunteers to assist in the community.  Secondly, provide mitigation strategies based on hazards and risks from disasters in the Livingstone Shire Area as well as provide funding to recover from disaster events that impact our Shire.  This charge will be levied equally on all rateable land within the Livingstone Shire Council area.  Discount in accordance with section 130 of the Local Government Regulation 2012 will not apply to this charge. The amount of this charge is $20 per annum. 

Sewerage Charges 
Council will make and levy a sewerage charge on all relevant land within declared sewerage areas in the Shire.

Water Consumption and Access Charges 
Council will make and levy a water supply charge on all relevant land within declared water supply areas in the Shire. Council will charge using a two part tariff with a graduated single tier access charge and a separate consumption charge.

Domestic Waste and Recycling Charges  
This charge covers the provision of domestic waste and recycling services to each residential property and is based on the number of bins at the property, whether or not ratepayers choose to use them.

Commercial Waste and Recycling Levy
This levy is charged per bin per collection (called a Service). for example, if one bin is collected three times a week the charge would be for three services, or two bins at three times a week would be six services. Rates of commercial premises may engage the service of an approved commercial operator to provide this service where Council is satisfied that the commercial waste will be removed at least one a week and at least once a fortnight for recycling.

Natural Environment Separate Charge  
A separate charge for the purpose of funding for services such as environmental protection, enhancement and conservation, recycling and general waste management activities not covered by the Waste Charge will be made and levied equally on all rateable land within the Shire. The amount of this charge is $65 per annum.
